Hi, I'm Shannon! I'm an educator, creative business owner, and lifelong learner with 13 years of experience teaching English language arts and social studies.

I began my teaching career in 2006 and spent the next 13 years working with middle and high school students in South Carolina and Florida. Along the way, I taught everything from sixth-grade language arts to AP English Language and Composition, worked with highly gifted learners, developed curriculum, mentored fellow educators, and took on leadership roles within my schools.

I've always loved the creative and collaborative parts of teaching. Give me an opportunity to develop an engaging unit, find a new approach to a challenging concept, or get students talking about a really good book, and I'm happy.

But what I remember most about my years in the classroom are the students and the relationships we built. Middle schoolers, in particular, have a way of keeping you on your toes, making you laugh, and reminding you that no two days are ever quite the same.

A little about me

A few chapters later…

In 2018, I stepped away from the classroom and eventually found my way into creative entrepreneurship. Today, I own Sunday Muse Design, a boutique creative studio specializing in branding, design, and marketing.

Running a business has given me a different perspective on so many things I valued as an educator: communication, problem-solving, creativity, leadership, and the importance of adapting when something isn't working.

It's also reminded me how much I enjoy learning new things, sharing what I know, and helping people grow.

As I consider returning to education, I'm excited about the opportunity to bring both sides of my professional experience together.

a little throwback to my teaching days

“Your ideas are innovative and refreshing. Your plans are geared towards improving the learning experience for students which will benefit them all.”

— Dr. Pough, Administrator Evaluation, 2015

Outside the classroom

I'm also a wife, mom, avid reader, and someone who will happily spend far too much time planning the details of a creative project.

These days, life looks a little different than it did when I first started teaching, but my curiosity, love of learning, and enthusiasm for a good idea haven't changed much.
